Watch out for scams: trust only those you know

Information and prevention campaign against elderly scams

Carabinieri meet the elderly with the initiative "Occhio alle truffe: fidati solo di chi conosci," an information and awareness campaign sponsored by the Municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia.
It is an information campaign for citizen safety, aimed especially at the elderly population promoted by the Castiglione della Pescaia and Buriano Carabinieri stations.

The program includes a series of meetings aimed at giving citizens, especially the elderly, useful tips to avoid scams and deception. In fact, it is often the elderly who are most at risk of having their homes intruded upon by malefactors.

The campaign will take place at several appointments:
in Buriano on November 22 at 4 p.m. at the Social Center;
in Vetulonia on Nov. 23 at 4 p.m. at the Diocesan Center in Via Garibaldi;
in Tirli on Nov. 24 at 4 p.m. at the Asbuc office;
in Castiglione della Pescaia on Nov. 29 at 10 a.m. at the Council Hall in Via Cesare Battisti.

Unfortunately, especially during the Christmas season, elderly people and especially those who live alone are bothered by people who introduce themselves as family friends or as operators of the municipality or some entity.
If you notice anything strange, call 112 on the phone to report the incident.

Protecting the elderly is a civic duty, and these meetings are meant to help prevent possible scams and become more aware of the risks.
