Gorgona Island, Social Program 2022

The project "Island of Gorgona, Social Program," organized by Toscana Trekking in collaboration with the Prison Administration, proposes a visit to this particular location with its many natural beauties preserved thanks to its status as a Penal Colony.

Today the island of Gorgona is included in the Tuscan Archipelago National Park and access to it is still restricted.

This is an opportunity to visit it to grasp its historical-naturalistic aspects through the eyes of Environmental Guides.

Two types of visits are planned

the classic visit aims to introduce the history, nature and social aspects of daily life on the island. A hike on Gorgona's dirt roads is also planned, accompanied by the Environmental Guides and does not involve contact with prisoners;

the visit with Social Project involves sharing the project of recovering inmates, encouraging their employment and reintegration into social life, in close collaboration with the Prison Administration and the valuable work of the Educators. An excursion to discover Gorgona is planned, accompanied also by one of the "guests" of the Prison House, who will convey his own view of the island from a different perspective.

The cost for accompanying prison staff, in addition to the cost of the visit, includes an additional fee of 4.00 euros per person.

Schedule, for both visits
 

• 8.15 Boarding at the Elba Pier of the Medici Port of Livorno
• 8.45 Departure
• 09.30 Arrival in Gorgona: clearance of formalities and division into small groups for excursion to the north and west areas of the island. Easy itinerary of about 6/10 km.
• 12.30 Packed lunch
• 13.30 Continuation of the route to the Torre Vecchia and the small harbor where, at the discretion of the prison administration, swimming will be available.
• 15.00 Departure for Livorno with arrival scheduled for 4.30 p.m.

Itinerary information: 

Easy walk on dirt roads, average elevation gain 250 m with a total duration of about 3 1/2 hours.

The entire area is included in the prison complex. This implies that you are not allowed to carry your cell phone, camera and video camera, which will be collected upon disembarkation. Leaving the group during the entire tour is not allowed.

It is recommended to bring a daily backpack with water and to wear clothing and shoes suitable for the hike. Those who do not wear suitable footwear will NOT be allowed to make the tour.

Extra Line Departure

(Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)

Adults: € 58.00 (12 years and older)

+ € 4.00 per adult for those participating in the Social Project.

The price includes the following costs: Boat Transportation + Park Ticket + Guided Environmental Tour.

After booking you will be asked to pay the deposit of €20 per adult, the balance will be paid on board in cash on the day of departure.

ATTENTION. Excursions to Gorgona have a limited number of participants, so reservations are mandatory and will be fulfilled only upon payment of the deposit.

Reservation

For routine checks (SDI) by the Prison Administration, the following are required at booking: first name, last name (maiden name for ladies as well), place and date of birth, city of residence, landline and portable telephone number, email address if applicable, and tax identification number for issuance of receipt/invoice. Upon disembarkation on the island, it will be mandatory to show a valid document in addition to the deposit payment receipt. To confirm your reservation, a deposit of € 20 per person must be made at the same time as sending your details to the coordinates that will be communicated to you at the time of registration.
