Italian Fireball Championship | Punta Ala, 11–13 September

From 11 to 13 September, PuntAla Camp & Resort**** will host the Italian Fireball Championship, one of the most important events of the season for Italian dinghy sailing. The event is organised by Centro Velico Punta Ala, the resort’s sailing club and a key reference point for the regattas held in the destination. Right in front of our private beach, in the waters of the Gulf of Follonica, the best Italian crews will compete for the national title, as the championship returns here for the first time since the 2017 edition.

The Fireball is a historic high-performance two-person dinghy, created in the 1960s as a simple design that was also accessible to home builders. Still today, it remains a fast, technical and modern boat, capable of delivering close and spectacular racing. With its trapeze, spinnaker and planing hull, it demands strong teamwork between helm and crew, as well as sensitivity, precision and the ability to make the most of every condition on the water.

What makes Punta Ala especially suited to hosting this championship is also the nature of its race area: wind, sea and space combine to offer technical, varied and consistently interesting racing, where boat setup, sail trim, strategy and tactical choices can make all the difference in the fight for the Italian title.

As Fireball tradition goes, the championship will not be only about competition and battles on the water. The programme also includes several social moments ashore, with aperitifs, happy hours and dinners, filled with laughter, stories and team spirit — something that has always been one of the most distinctive and valuable aspects of this class.
